Two Canadian filmmakers, David 'Sudz' Sutherland and Jennifer Holness, received the $5,000 FORscene Trailblazer Award at the closing ceremonies of the Innoversity Summit in Toronto.
Sutherland and Holness, partners in Hungry Eyes Film and Television won for their project, Through Our Eyes which introduced filmmaking to over 28 youth in grades 6, 7 and 8, some of whom were in the "at risk" category.
They worked with the youth over a four month period to produce seven mobisode films.
"We are both excited and pleased to be considered trailblazers in this area," the filmmakers said in a release. "Mobisodes have taken us into new territories and it's wonderful that Through Our Eyes allowed us to venture here. Working with the wonderful kids from Jane and Finch made this project a joy. We plan to continue this filmmaking initiative showing how kids from all walks of life and neighbourhoods can become voices of the future," said Holness on accepting the award.
Sutherland and Holness have been awarded $5,000 of usage on a new Web-based off-line editing platform, called FORscene. Using it, they are able to upload footage, log, review, assembly edit and publish frame-accurate footage to the Web, iPod or smart phone anywhere in the world. FORscene has been newly introduced into the Canadian market, as both a software product and pay-as-you-go service, which can be accessed from a Web browser on a Mac, PC or Linux computer.
UK-based Forbidden Technologies, developers of FORscene, sponsored the $5,000 award through Toronto-based Formidable Technologies Inc., its licensed distributor. They decided to launch the FORscene Trailblazer Award in keeping with its own innovative, trailblazing technology that provides a professional logging, editing and publishing suite that is accessible over the internet. "It is now possible to edit anywhere anytime simply by having access to a high speed internet connection," said Stephen Streator, creator of FORscene.
The FORscene Trailblazer Award is given to a person or company in the film, television or broadcast industry who has chartered new territory and has done it with integrity, vigor, vision and for the good of the industry.
"We are pleased to give David Sutherland and Jennifer Holness the FORscene Trailblazer Award for their commitment to the industry and for having the heart and foresight to initiate such a worthwhile endeavour and to follow-through with their time and talent," said Streater.
