blogtv.ca is turning web-enabled Canadians into national broadcasters.

blogtv.ca is described as the first social network destination specifically for Canadians, allowing them to showcase media creation talents, distribute opinions, discuss and debate with an online audience, and interact with viewers using real-time communication tools, including live video.

blogtv.ca is building a community that supports media activities such as:

* live broadcasting
* recording of live broadcasts
* interaction with the viewing audience
* browsing recorded and live broadcasts

Alliance Atlantis Communications and its Toronto-based partner GS New Media initially launched blogtv.ca as a beta website late last year, with future developments and announcements in the works.

At the site, users can create an account and start broadcasting live. Users and viewers are encouraged to provide feedback and ideas for improvement, and an internal monitoring process is in place to assess content and viewer feedback.

blogTV was first introduced in 2004 by Tapuz, a publicly-listed company based in Israel, specializing in communities, blogs and chats. On blogTV.ca, Canadians are free to showcase their talents as broadcasters, or watch and interact with other users as they broadcast. Using special geo-blocking techniques, all blogTV.ca content is available only to Canadian Internet users.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with GS to introduce the first video blogging network operated by and for Canadians," said Claude Galipeau, Senior Vice President of Digital Media for Alliance Atlantis, in a release. "blogTV.ca fits perfectly into our ongoing strategy of targeting niche audiences and taps into the growing phenomenon of user-generated content. We are delighted to be bringing this breakthrough platform to users in Canada."

"We are pleased to partner with Alliance Atlantis in what will be the next step in user-generated content and the first installation of blogTV in North America," said Shemi Levi, Chief Executive Officer, GS New Media. "blogTV.ca refines user-generated content while expanding a world of programming choices for online audiences."

GS New Media is a distribution company based in Toronto, with offices in London and Tel Aviv. GS New Media was founded in 2006 (a partnership of GravityVFX Inc. and Sabio) to identify and market content for a three-screen strategy – broadcast, broadband and mobile. Partnered with leading broadcasters, software developers and designers, the company is positioned to provide a range of services, products and platforms geared to today's global media marketplace.

Alliance Atlantis provides 13 specialty channels, co-produces and distributes the hit CSI franchise, and indirectly holds a 51% limited partnership interest in Motion Picture Distribution LP, a leading distributor of motion pictures in Canada, with operations in the United Kingdom and Spain.
