Mobile seacrh services from Yahoo! have been expanded and localized for consumers in Canada and in five European countries, the company has announced.

Consumers in Canada can now access Yahoo! oneSearch through Yahoo!’s Mobile Web service, on any mobile phone with a browser and Internet access.

Consumers accessing Yahoo! Mobile Web in the six countries will now find Yahoo! oneSearch at the top of the page.

“What consumers want from a mobile search is entirely different to what they want on the PC,” said Kerry Munro, general manager, Yahoo! Canada in a release. “Yahoo! oneSearch is designed specifically for the mobile phone. It understands what busy consumers are looking for when they are on the move and brings up relevant answers in the first screen. Yahoo! oneSearch delivers better results with just one search, instead of a sea of Web links to PC sites."

At launch, consumers in Canada will be able to enjoy content including News, Finance, Weather, Image, Flickr and Web results. In addition, Canadians will have access to search business listings, complete with ratings and reviews, from coast to coast. The company will add new content feeds over the coming months. Yahoo! oneSearch first launched on the company’s Mobile Web service US in March 2007.

Yahoo! oneSearch is designed to make finding information faster by providing relevant results right on the first page such as news headlines, images, weather, financial updates and easy navigation to other Web sites. For example, if a consumer wants to find a car wash in Toronto they just need to type car wash into the search box. The search results would list local car washes, their user ratings, their phone numbers (which users can call with a single click) and more. To dig more deeply into the results, a consumer simply clicks on any listed search result and more information will be displayed.

Yahoo! oneSearch on Yahoo!’s Mobile Web service has advertising built into the experience, enabling advertisers to reach consumers on their mobile devices across major mobile operators. This further extends the reach of Yahoo!’s advertising services to the mobile environment. Consumers will be able to click on an ad to go to the advertisers’ mobile Web site or a landing page to get additional information about the advertisers’ offerings, including the ability to call the advertiser.
