Shaw Communications took the advice of Boston-based CRA International, Inc., a worldwide leader in providing management, economics, and financial consulting services, during the recent government auction of advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum licenses in Canada.

The auction, which began in late May and ended on July 22, 2008, produced a successful result for Shaw, the company reports.

CRA was retained by Shaw to advise on its participation in the auction, including preparations leading up to the auction as well as bidding advice during the auction. Shaw won spectrum licenses, primarily in western Canadian provinces and northern Ontario, at favorable prices relative to prices for other, comparable licenses. In total, Shaw spent about CD$190 million.

"Through its participation in the highly competitive auction, Shaw obtained licenses that fit within its objectives," said James C. Burrows, CRA's president and chief executive officer. "CRA drew upon our experience advising on similar spectrum auctions around the world to assist Shaw and we're pleased to have helped the company achieve a successful result."

In addition to Brad Miller, Vice President and Practice Leader of CRA's Auctions & Competitive Bidding Practice, other CRA staff assisting in this effort included Georgina Martinez as well as Senior Consultant Bridger Mitchell and CRA Consultant Professor Ken Hendricks.
