Version 8 of the Canadian New Media Awards has recognized and celebrated the many accomplishments of individuals and companies in the Canadian new media industry.
The prestigious product and company awards, handed out during the Awards Gala held at the Carlu in Toronto, both promote the new media sector and provide inspiration for those preparing to enter the industry.
Toronto-based new media company marblemedia was recognized yesterday with two trophies at the CNMAs, winning the Company of the Year Award as well as the Producer of the Year award for company partner and executive producer Mark Bishop.
“We are very honoured to receive these awards because the continually evolving new media field is our passion and at the heart of all our work,” Bishop said. “My business partner Matt Hornburg and I thank our amazing team at marblemedia. Without them all this would just be a dream.”
Recognizing the importance of new communications technologies to social action, the CNMAs recognized achievement in two related categories, Social Media websites and applications.
Homeless Nation, a Montreal-based not-for-profit organization, took home a CNMA, matching one it had also received from the U.S.-based Society for New Communications Research (SNCR).
The homelessnation.org website uses new media technologies to help Canadians living on the street, and to providing those with lived experience the necessary life skills and media tools to empower themselves to make their voice heard in society, describes National Coordinator Chris Aung-Thwin.
As well as the individual and company awards, the Special Recognition Award recognizes an individual from Canada who has made a significant contribution to the new media industry, but would not necessarily qualify for a CNMA.
The industry gathered in mid-November for the Awards celebration and related events, including the nextMEDIA Industry conference, such as Pre-awards Finalist Showcase & Cocktail Reception, Evening Awards Ceremony and After Party.
