The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the National Post will share content across their media platforms, under terms of newly announced agreement that is effective immediately.

CBC.ca will run daily financial stories and podcasts from the Financial Post in CBC's online Money section, and The National Post will run daily sports stories in the sports section of nationalpost.com and periodically in the sports section of the newspaper.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The CBC just announced this week that Anne-Marie Mediwake, former supper hour anchor on Global TV, is joining CBC Newsworld this fall as an anchor.

The CBC will be announcing changes to its television news line-up and programming, at an event to be held later this month. The press conference has been delayed once already.

Regardless of the upcoming announcement, more than 800 CBC staff members have been or will be laid off as part of announced staff reductions and budget cuts at the public broadcaster.

Privately-owned Canwest Global, operators of the Naointal Post, is facing its own financial burdens, and has recently sold its stake in Australian broadcast outlet Channel Ten. Canwest is loaded with some $4 billion in debt; net proceeds from the TEN sale will amount to about $1 billion in debt reduction and asset sale income.

"This partnership builds on key strengths of two great news organizations," added Paul Godfrey, president and CEO of National Post. "For more than a century, the Financial Post has been Canada's go-to brand for business and the CBC is a leader in sports coverage. Together, we will provide Canadians the best in business and sports news."

"This is an attractive arrangement for both organizations," said Richard Stursberg, executive vice president of CBC English Services. "As Canada's national public broadcaster, we have an unsurpassed reputation in the field of sports reporting, which will be available to more Canadians through the Post's readership. CBC.ca's financial news content will be enhanced by one of Canada's most trusted and respected sources of business news."
