Global toy and family product manufacturer Mattel has launched its new consumer website, saying it’s an online destination for kids of all ages.

Mattel partnered with Vancouver-based studio Work at Play, along with digital ad agency Razorfish, to develop the platform that brings all of Mattel's diverse brands and media properties into a single, unified network.

"We chose Work at Play because we needed a smart developer who was agile and could deliver creative solutions," said Nancy Perlman, Senior Producer, Mattel.com. "They were fantastic to work with - completely reliable and collaborative.”

Work at Play helped deploy a universal navigation bar, now used across all Mattel brands and websites.

The new site is built on several open source software products and is powered by Drupal, a content management system, and Apache SOLR, an open source search engine

It is designed to deliver online play experiences for the company's millions of customers and site visitors. The new amalgamated site targets an audience of all ages and showcases hundreds of online games and videos from about 26 brands ranging from Barbie and Hot Wheels to PollyPocket and Matchbox.

"Companies trust Work at Play to deliver great customer experiences, because we have the history and the passion for merging creative solutions with engineering excellence," said David Gratton, CEO for Work at Play. "The new Mattel.com is an impressive vision and we are excited to be a part of the team that is bringing it to fruition. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Mattel to bring the next phases of mattel.com to life."
