HDcctv Alliance, a global security industry consortium established to manage technical standards for HDcctv equipment interoperability, is welcoming new members to its alliance.
The companies have joined in order to participate in manufacturing new security and surveillance industry equipment compliant with HDcctv specifications and standards.
HDcctv-based systems transmit HDTV signals digitally over conventional CCTV media without packetization and without any perceivable compression latency.
The HDcctv Alliance, along with other industry associations, is working with other associations to create derivative standards that enable plug-and-play security systems and equipment that deliver high-resolution, high-definition (HD) surveillance video with no delays, image artifacts, or jitter.
Alliance members are drawn from component and equipment manufacturers worldwide. HDcctv Alliance Charter Members include Comart System, EverFocus Electronics Corp, Ovii, Stretch Inc., and Comart System.
Gennum Corporation, based in Burlington, ON, is also one of the charter members.
In a recent investor day event in Toronto, providing a business update and a clear vision of the Company's growth strategy, prospects and future potential, Dr. Franz Fink, President and Chief Executive Officer, noted the company’s leadership position in the market for high speed mixed-signal ICs for high performance networking, storage and telecommunications applications.
"We are uniquely positioned to benefit from the high speed network expansion that is underway globally," said Dr. Fink. "With clear and differentiated technology leadership in this market, we are well positioned to deliver profitable growth in 2010 and beyond."
HDcctv offers several advantages for the end user, the Alliance specifies, compared to alternative ways of achieving high resolution including:
• Surveillance-Grade Reliability -- Video is not broken up into packets and then transmitted via an occasionally congested network.
• Plug-and-Play Upgrade -- The transition from CCTV to HDcctv is very easy: just upgrade the DVR and selected cameras.
• Familiar and Reliable User Interface -- For the installer/operator, the only difference between HDcctv and CCTV is that the DVR recording configuration screens have both HD and SD resolution
• True HDTV Live View --not compressed or packetized.
• Real-Time Speed Dome Control -- no signal delays between a joystick command and the corresponding speed dome
• Best Possible Input Format for Analytics -- delivers digitally crisp, unadulterated video from cameras to DVR
Semiconductor technology advances that make HDcctv cost-effective and affordable include:
• Image sensors capable of capturing surveillance-grade HD images
• Image processing circuits coupled to (or embedded in) those high-resolution sensors
• HD-SDI transmission technology adapted from broadcast HDTV
• Codecs capable of processing broadcast-industry-standards-compliant HD video streams
• HDTV display panels (leveraging consumer trends)
Clinton Electronics, IDIS, Marshall Electronics and Speco Technologies are the most recent companies to join.
"HDcctv will enable Speco Technologies' dealers to use existing coaxial cable infrastructure to deliver megapixel resolution images to their customers. The ability to accomplish this without entering the IP world will allow a greater cross section of installers to compete for the ever-growing megapixel business," said Gary Perlin, vice president of video products, Speco Technologies. "HDcctv products will be a perfect alternative to the megapixel IP cameras that we already sell. We will be introducing a line of dome, bullet and traditional cameras as well as the DVRs and monitors to support them, starting in the first quarter of 2010."
"HDcctv will get plenty of attention from security installers and consumers due to its high resolution and ease of installation," said Jin Ho Jung, CTO/Ph.D, IDIS Co. LTD. "Joining the HDcctv Alliance is in line with our business strategy. IDIS targets the mid-to-premium DVR market and HDcctv DVR market is the exact market we aim at. We first plan to release 4CH DVR with 1080p resolution and will eventually add 8CH and 16CH DVRs our product line."
"By joining the HDcctv Alliance we gain the ability to collaborate with and share resources of many companies that have the same goal of bringing the highest quality video available to the main stream CCTV market. We already have monitors that accept SDI and will expand into every segment of the whole video system in the coming year," said Gary Clinton, vice president, Clinton Electronics Corp. "We see HDcctv becoming a more natural transition into high-resolution video for the CCTV industry. HDcctv cameras will be much simpler to install and operate compared to IP cameras and will bring CCTV closer to what most of the nation has already been enjoying with HD quality television."
"We expect an explosive growth of popularity in HDcctv systems in the future," said Nathan Mordukhay, vice president, S&M, Marshall Electronics, Inc. "We are a broadcast Industry leader in monitors with HD-SDI inputs and for decades have supplied the security market with unique optical and electronic products. Using the official HDcctv logo lets our customers know we are delivering broadcast quality HD technology that meets the highest quality HDcctv specifications and interoperability standards in the security market."
"These new members highlight the increasing global reach and diversity of the HDcctv Alliance," said Todd E. Rockoff, Ph.D., chairman of HDcctv Alliance. "We look forward to their active contributions to v2.0 of the HDcctv Specification, which will include up-the-cable camera control, bi-directional audio, and possibly up-the-cable power as well."
About HDcctv Alliance
HDcctv Alliance is a non-profit, global consortium that manages open industry specifications for high-definition closed-circuit television (HDcctv), HDcctv is an all-digital transmission over coaxial cable of broadcast-industry-standards-compliant serialized uncompressed video for the security industry. The Alliance promotes industry adoption of HDcctv and provides education on its benefits to the security industry and end market. The Alliance compliance program facilitates the development of high-quality interoperable HDcctv devices. Devices that have passed compliance testing display the HDcctv logo and are promoted by the Alliance. Detailed information about the HDcctv Specification is available only to members on the Alliance's Website.
