Telus TV is expanding its reach in western Canada, offering IPTV services in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, AB and Campbell River, BC as its on-going broadband network enhancement and rollout continues.
It’s part of the company’s more than $700 million investment in advanced wireless and wireline broadband infrastructure, announced earlier this year.
Telus TV provides hundreds of standard definition and nearly three dozen HD TV channels, as well as radio stations, and PVR, VOD and PPV and time-shifting services. Telephone Call Display is offered on the TV screen, and an interactive programming guide is offered.
“We're thrilled to be able to provide Telus' IP-based, all digital television service” in the new locations,” said Fred Weinheimer, general manager, Customer Service Delivery. “We know the impressive features and un-matched flexibility of Telus TV will excite residents.”
The launch in Campbell River follows the recent sale of regional telecom provider CRTV to Shaw Communications. Shaw has invested heavily in new technology, including a fibre-optic connections needed for digital phone and related services.
Telus began offering its satellite TV service in Campbell River last summer, and now it has added the Internet-based TV service.
As Campbell River is designated as a “competitive community”, customers’ channel choices are much more flexible. Individual channels can be ordered, if it’s not available in one of several themed bundles offered.
The Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) allows a telecom provider in an area like Campbell River, which now has major companies in competition with each other, to apply for deregulation so it can adjust its prices and bundle deals.
