The National Film Board of Canada has a new partnership with Montreal-based Cinema Politica to screen films made by the NFB and its production partners at universities across Canada.
Cinema Politica is a non-profit network of community and campus locals that screen independent political films and videos by Canadian and international artists throughout Canada and abroad. It is volunteer-run, and admission to screenings is by donation.
The Coca-Cola Case will be the first film launched under this new partnership. The documentary will be released in 17 cities in Canada, with additional international screenings in Norway, Sweden, New Zealand and the United States, from mid-January to the end of March 2010.
Directed by Germán Gutiérrez and Carmen Garcia, and produced by Argus Films in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada, The Coca-Coca Case follows labour rights lawyers Daniel Kovalik, Terry Collingsworth and activist Ray Rogers of the Stop Killer Coke campaign as they attempt to hold the giant U.S. multinational beverage company accountable in this legal and human rights battle.
Organized in partnership with Cinema Politica, the tour will begin with a screening at Concordia University in Montreal on January 18, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and Ray Rogers. In Canada, Cinema Politica will hold discussions after all screenings on the tour. The DVD of the film will be released in early March.
The film’s trailer, up-to-date information about the tour agenda, downloadable excerpts as well as interviews with the filmmakers are available online at NFB.ca/the-coca-cola-case.
