Toronto-based film and video company DJWoods Productions is hitting the rodeo circuit with two of its 3D camera units, set to capture the action at a Bull Riding Pro Rodeo riding event.
The footage gathered there will become a full-length 3D episode for the Rush HD series "Hell on Hooves", which is produced for Rush HD by Juxtapose Productions of Saskatoon.
It's described as "one of the most exciting events on the Pro Rodeo circuit" and for the first time, TV viewers will get to see the action from Strathmore, AB in 3D.
Dennis Hrapchak, executive producer for the series for Saskatoon's Juxtapose, says it's going to be an exciting weekend from a television production standpoint. "This hasn't been done before because 3D production is simply so new," he explained. "We're pushing the limits of what can be done in 3D, because most people who watch 3D at home see pretty pictures without too much action. We're about to change that!"
Diane Woods of DJWoods added that it's "a terrific opportunity to stay on the leading edge of 3D production in Canada, and grow our relationship with Juxtapose Productions and Rush HD."
John Panikkar, CEO of Rush HD, says doing rodeo in 3D is a natural for a network such as Rush HD. "Hell on Hooves is a terrific and popular series that will look even more fantastic in 3D. Bull Riding is exciting enough in 2D and of course when you see it live - but 3D is a way to make it real for viewers like they've never seen before."
Pannikar noted that the producoitn is juts one of several 3D shows planned for the suite of HD channels operated by High Fidelity HDTV, including Rush HD, Oasis HD, Treasure HD and Equator HD.
High Fidelity's channels are carried by satellite, cable and IPTV television service providers in Canada.
