Bringing radio and digital media platforms closer together, a new music discovery app that provides context, perspective and recommendations about top music releases, artists and activities has been released by Corus Entertainment.

The iPhone and iPad app lets users connect with ExploreMusic's content directly on their portable media device.

The ExploreMusic App combines content from the online and digital radio initiative ExploreMusic.com (featuring interviews, performances, podcasts and stories from artists such as Death Cab for Cutie and The Baseball Project). The ExploreMusic App also hosts original content from The Ongoing History of New Music and the Legends of Classic Rock, popular programs from Corus Radio.

Corus launched ExploreMusic in 2008 as on-air and online music discovery service with radio personality and musicologist Alan Cross.

The new ExploreMusic App is presented by Wirelesswave and powered by the Cardinal music sharing and discovery platform.

Cardinal Media Technologies is a Calgary-based digital media development team co-founded by Christian MacLean, Richard Cotter, and Cory Smith.

Its music participation and insight platform lets users share what they're listening too, discover new music and friends, create ad-hoc location-based networks, and influence what's playing at 'Cardinal Powered' venues.

Cardinal also creates listening and sharing apps for individual musical artists and bands. Cardinal is itself is a creation of as.so.ci.a.tion, the Calgary-based start-up specializing in IT recruitment and technology solutions.

"The ExploreMusic App delivers on the idea of building community around sharing and discovering new music wherever iPhone and iPod touch users are," said Ira Haberman, Brand Manager, ExploreMusic.

WIRELESSWAVE and WAVE SANS FIL are divisions of GLENTEL, a telecom service provider headquartered in Burnaby, BC, which also operates Glentel Wireless, Tbooth wireless, la cabine T sans fil, WIRELESS etc. and SANS FIL etc., as well as Diamond Wireless, a Verizon National Premium Retailer in the U.S.

Corus multimedia entertainment brands include YTV, Treehouse, Nickelodeon (Canada), W Network, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network (Canada), CosmoTV, Sundance Channel (Canada), Movie Central, HBO Canada, Nelvana, Kids Can Press and radio stations including CKNW AM 980, 99.3 The FOX, Country 105, 630 CHED, Q107 and 102.1 the Edge.
