Content creators with a doc project in development, production or completion can take advantage of new pitch-meeting services at this year's Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival.
One-on-one meetings with distributors, sales agents and festival programmers can be arranged at part of this year’s agenda; so, too, commissioning editors and other film financers.
Real world profile and online promotion development can precede the new opportunities for producers and rights holders to mingle and network with participating buyers.
The two new programs are called Hot Docs Deal Maker and Distribution Rendezvous; the services will run throughout this year’s Festival, April 25 – May 5, 2013.
Online applications open tomorrow at the Hot Docs website; a preliminary list of participating buyers will be available once applications open.
“These two programs aim to connect the wealth of fantastic projects with an expanded network of broadcasters, buyers and agents,” described Elizabeth Radshaw, industry programs director for Hot Docs. “Deal Maker is designed for projects seeking finance, highlighting smart science and history, while Distribution Rendezvous is focused on completed or nearly finished works ready for exhibition.”
Hot Docs Deal Maker is a pitch-meeting program for works-in-progress that will put projects in front of leading international decision-makers. Hot Docs Deal Maker will choose 50 compelling projects submitted to be matched in one-on-one meetings with commissioning editors and other film financers, as well as online profile and promotion. The application deadline is Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Distribution Rendezvous will help finished and rough cut films solidify their future in pre-arranged meetings with distributors, sales agents and festival programmers. The meetings will be followed by an opportunity to mingle and network with participating buyers. The application deadline is Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
Support for the Hot Docs Deal Maker comes from Realscreen. Additional support is provided by Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation.
Hot Docs will present its 20th annual edition from April 25 – May 5, 2013.
More than 180 documentaries from Canada and around the world will be presented to Toronto audiences and international delegates. Hot Docs will also mount a full roster of conference sessions and market events and services for documentary practitioners, including the renowned Hot Docs Forum and The Doc Shop. In partnership with Blue Ice Group, Hot Docs operates the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, a century-old landmark located in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.
