Canada’s top companies in digital media and information and communications technology (ICT) were showcased at a sold out event presented by the Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX).

The showcase featured an exciting line-up of the most creative companies in the digital media and ICT field. The CIX Top 20 was chosen by a selection committee of industry experts and hand-picked from a highly competitive list of registrants from across the country.

Throughout the day, 400 attendees (organizers later revised that figure to some 500) bid on virtual currency on the CIX Top 20 as each company presented on what makes them the company to watch in the coming year and participants saw their valuations rise and fall live on the virtual stock exchange. At the end of the day, the People’s Choice winners were awarded based on the companies’ highest virtual valuations at the close of the event.

The 2012 CIX People’s Choice winners are:

· Frank & Oak (Digital Media)

· Jibestream (ICT)

This year, CIX received hundreds of applications from major cities all over Canada and the Top 20 were hand-picked from a list of companies from across the country by a selection committee of industry experts. Companies were judged on a number of key factors, including:

· Product/service offering

· Depth of management

· Market opportunity

· Business model

CIX once again partnered with the Government of Canada’s Canadian Trade Commissioner Service office in California that will be providing three Canadian companies working in Digital Media and Information and Communication Technology with a prestigious development opportunity. The Consulate-operated Canadian Technology Accelerator will provide these companies with an opportunity to work rent-free for three months in a fully serviced development space at the Plug and Play Tech Center (PnP) in Sunnyvale or at RocketSpace in San Francisco, located in the heart of Silicon Valley. The three companies will work alongside over 250 tech start-ups from over 20 countries.

The 2012 winners of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service development opportunity are:

· Scribble Live

· Shopcaster

· Wajam
