Toronto-based content creation company marblemedia has acquired the rights to the ’80s television game show, Just Like Mom, which ran on Canadian TV for five years.
Now, a new and updated version is being planned, with the addition of some new elements, producers say, including interactive components and a new name - Just Like Mom…and Dad.
“This show is such a fan favourite and we have always been determined to return this iconic Canadian brand to TV and online,” said Mark Bishop, Executive Producer, marblemedia, in a release. “So much has changed since it went off air, especially the role of mothers, and we want to reflect these changes in our new version of the series while still adhering to the creativity and fun of the original concept.”
The original series, which ran on CTV from 1980 to 1985, had three mother-child teams competing to determine which pair knew each other the best through question and answer matches and The Bake-Off Challenge. The winning team was selected based on their ability to predict each other’s answers and on the parent’s ability to blindly select their child’s baking creation.
The new version of the series will keep many of the original challenges and add new physical and intellectual challenges including a Bake-Off Challenge in the new “Kitchen Koliseum.” An original series creator and co-host, Catherine Swing, will be returning to the series as a creative consultant. The show will be complemented by a strong interactive component that will allow viewers to access bonus content and compete in challenges at home and win prizes.
marblemedia has made its reputation producing internationally successful kids’ entertainment across multiple platforms with its expansive array of shows that include challenge shows, cooking shows and kids variety shows. Just Like Mom…and Dad combines all of these elements into one family-friendly show that is entertaining for kids and nostalgic for their parents.
marblemedia will be presenting Just Like Mom at MIPCOM and is actively seeking broadcast, sponsorship and brand integration partners.
