A strong global appeal in countries like Japan, Korea, Brazil, USA, France, UK and Russia, the mobile application from Toronto radio station JAZZ.FM91 has driven the download count to over 400,000.
As a not-for-profit arts organization, the 24/7 jazz radio station has hit such a large number of downloads at a good time, in tandem with the start of the annual Fall On-Air Jazz Appeal.
The JAZZ.FM91 iPhone App’s features include a Jazz Calendar, Music News, direct Twitter access, a unique Tell a Friend feature, Program Schedule guide, a Blog feature, Live streaming and Podcast streaming.
“JAZZ.FM91 is committed to engaging our audience with new technology and being a leader in new and innovative ways to listen to jazz. The success of our iPhone app around the world has been incredible. The feedback we receive from our global listeners reinforces what we do here at JAZZ.FM91 every single day. The app has also created a platform for Canadian jazz artists to be heard and discovered worldwide, and for that I’m very proud,” said Ross Porter, President and CEO.
JAZZ.FM91 can be heard live on the air at 91.1FM, streamed online at www.jazz.fm, or listened to on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, with the free JAZZ.FM91 App.
The station also presents the Canadian Jazz Archive Online, maintained by station volunteers and supported through the Department of Canadian Heritage through Canadian Culture Online.
The site provides access to selections of archived performances from 30 years of the JAZZ.FM91 Sound of Jazz (formerly Sound of Toronto) Concert Series; biographies and a chronology of artists who performed in the Sound of Jazz Concerts over the decades; in-depth documentaries on some iconic Canadian jazz artists; and classroom-ready teaching tools.
