Popular morning radio team Humble and Fred do not have a new gig in the radio industry.
More significant news may not be found, unless you check out their new Internet-based alternative to commercial radio.
HumbleandFred.com is online now, in advance of what is planned to be the first show debut on Saturday, October 15th.
The pair plans to upload new shows each weekday following that, with plans for period live shows and video streaming in the works.
Basically unemployed since 2006 (the pair had been on-air in separate and distinct roles) following more than ten years as a successful morning show combo, the two say they need some money - hence, the new online concept.
Said to be hyper-local, social and interactive, HumbleandFredradio.com will be driven by social technology; it will cover all platforms and depend on viral distribution, apps and podcasts.
"It truly is a revolution in the way we can think about radio," said Howard Glassman, the voice behind the radio persona Humble Howard. "This is a new and truly authentic and alternative radio experience featuring raw uncensored commentary, news, fresh music, exclusive special guests and just the right amount of fart jokes."
There's some similar commentary on the website now, which is functioning as a blog right now, but has in years past hosted Humble and Fred content, such as a special Christmas podcast from 2006. The site is developed in partnership with Toronto Mike, a long-time blogger and social media guru.
Fred Patterson added, "We can't wait to be stupid on your smart phone. It is time to realize that the way we reach our target audiences and deliver content needs to change with ubiquity and social graphing the key to new markets."
The Humble and Fred Show had been voted best morning show in Canada four times, and it long held down a number one with the 18-34 demographic. They worked at CFNY, Mix 99 and other statioins. Their original audience has grown up, the pair opine, and is now a sought after 25-54 demographic.
