National pay TV provider Super Channel is working with Halifax-based Emotion Pictures on a new original drama series Forgive Me, and a companion website that will feature additional content and interactive elements.
Production on the Super Channel original begins filming December 10 in Halifax. The 12 episode series is slated to premiere in spring 2013.
Forgive Me is a half-hour drama that breaks the seal of the Catholic confessional, tackling controversial issues such as reproductive technology and same-sex marriage, while building an emotional storyline about a priest and his tangled and complicated past.
As such, show reps say, the program’s online digital components will expand on the story line with feature ‘interactive confessions’, additional footage, and information about the show, its cast, and its creation.
The show marks the series television debut for writer and director Thom Fitzgerald, known as one of Canada’s most highly respected feature film directors (The Hanging Garden, Cloudburst, The Event, 3 Needles), and the first original drama series for Super Channel.
"The series looks at the challenge people face trying to reconcile religious faith with the real problems of today's technological, boundary-free society," Fitzgerald said, "I praise Super Channel for taking a leap of faith on this unique show."
"Forgive Me explores a world in which it's almost impossible to know what's right,” added Marguerite Pigott, Head of Creative Development for Super Channel. “We are thrilled to be involved with Thom Fitzgerald in bringing this emotionally powerful series to Super Channel's audience."
Forgive Me stars Halifax actor Mike McLeod and John Dunsworth (Trailer Park Boys). The series is produced by Doug Pettigrew and Thom Fitzgerald of Emotion Pictures in association with Super Channel and the participation of the Canadian Media Fund.
Emotion Pictures was founded in 1996, and it’s since become one of the country’s top production houses. Award-winning completed films include 3 Needles, The Event, The Wild Dogs, Beefcake and The Hanging Garden.
Super Channel is a national English pay television network, consisting of two HD Channels, four new SD channels and Super Channel On Demand; the company is owned by Allarco Entertainment 2008 Inc., an Edmonton-based media company.
