IBM Security Chief Gives Keynote at CIX 2012

The Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) reports that Sandy Bird, Chief Technology Officer of the IBM Security Systems Division, will be giving a keynote address at its showcase of digital media developments and information and communication technology.

"Sandy Bird is an outstanding example of the top entrepreneurial talent putting Canada at the forefront of the global innovation economy," said Rick Nathan, Co-Chair of CIX and Managing Director of Kensington Capital Partners. "His insight and experience will be immensely valuable for our attendees this year."

Prior to joining IBM, Bird was a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Q1 Labs, which was acquired by IBM in November, 2011. Bird has extensive technology experience specializing in database design and development for web applications. Prior to Q1 Labs, he held a variety of technical positions at the University of New Brunswick in support, development and administration. Bird studied Electrical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick.

CIX 2012 takes place Nov. 27 at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto.

Also at CIX 2012, the Top 20 – a showcase of Canada's hottest innovative companies working in Digital Media and Information and Communication Technology. Canadian companies can submit an online profile before October 12, 2012 to be considered for the Top 20.

Digi Awards Call for Creativity

On Dec. 4, 2012, members of Canada's creative digital community will gather in Toronto for a night devoted to celebrating the best in the business.

The 2012 Digi Awards will be handed out in 20 different categories, honouring the people, products and services on the Canadian digital media landscape today.

Individuals and companies are encouraged to enter the Awards competition, and entries are now being accepted. Early entry is open until August 31; the final deadline for entries is Sept. 28, 2012.

The Digi Awards are a part of nextMEDIA.

Blue Ant Media Announces Senior Management Appointments

Changes and new appointments among the senior management at Blue Ant Media have been announced.

Company CEO Michael MacMillan described the appointments following the merger of the company’s recently acquired High Fidelity HDTV and GlassBOX Television under Blue Ant Media.

Robb Chase continues as COO, Blue Ant Media where he is responsible for corporate development and will work closely with the Television & Digital management team in support of their efforts.

Raja Khanna, will continue on the Board of Directors and has been appointed to the new position of CEO, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media. Raja was formerly CEO, GlassBOX Television.

Jeffrey Elliott, Founder, President and Chief Strategy Officer, GlassBOX Television, will be leaving his position with the company to focus on digital media and next generation television applications. He remains a shareholder in Blue Ant Media and continues to work with the company on a consulting basis.

"As Founder of GlassBOX Television, Jeffrey Elliott had a vision on which he has made a terrific contribution to Blue Ant Media and to the Canadian media scene overall,” said Michael MacMillan, CEO, Blue Ant Media. ”We thank him for his dedication and wish him continued success going forward."

Ken Murphy, CEO and Co-founder and John Panikkar, Co-founder, High Fidelity HDTV are leaving their positions. Both become shareholders of Blue Ant Media, and Ken Murphy will be joining the Board of Directors of the company.

Asha Daniere has joined the company in the new position of EVP Business and Legal Affairs, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media. Asha will also work closely with Robb Chase in support of corporate development activities. She was formerly SVP and General Counsel, Score Media Inc.

Simon Foster has been appointed SVP Publishing & Business Development, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media.

Wayne Scrivens has been appointed SVP Technology, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media.

Frank Bertolas has been appointed EVP and CFO, Blue Ant Media.

Anna Carbone has been appointed VP Television Sales, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media.

Ryan Fuss has joined the company as VP Digital Sales, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media. Ryan was previously Managing Director, Canada Sales, Glam Media Canada.

Andrew Irwin has been promoted to VP Content Distribution & Partnerships, Television & Digital, Blue Ant Media.

Wavefront Grows Business Development Team

Wireless growth accelerator Wavefront has added three more business development professionals to its team.

Anthony (Tony) Thomas is the new Business Development Manager, Toronto; Martin Dufresne is now Business Development Manager, Quebec (Montreal), and Richard Miller is the new Senior Business Development Manager, based in Vancouver.

Thomas brings over 20 years of business development and management experience to his new role, including international B2B technology solutions providers, software and telecom management firms, and founding and staffing a large software application development laboratory. Prior to Wavefront, Thomas was Director, Sales and Marketing at Dancik International where he led sales of Enterprise-level ERP, B2B e-Commerce, B2B Electronic Data Interchange, Integrated Workplace Management Systems, and Business Intelligence software to manufacturers, wholesale distributors and large retailers in the building products industry. Anthony holds a BA in Economics (McMaster, Hamilton ON).

Dufresne, a key player in shaping Quebec’s mobile ecosystem, brings Wavefront valuable experience gained over 18 years in marketing and IT. He founded and managed IT firms and developed e-commerce activities and web projects for small, medium and large national and international corporations. Prior to Wavefront, he spearheaded Alliance Mobilité, the Quebec Mobile Alliance, established initiatives to accelerate the growth of Quebec’s mobile ecosystem, and organized trade missions to develop international market linkages for Quebec-based companies. Dufresne also founded and directed Mobiz, Quebec’s foremost mobile technology conference. Martin holds Certificates of Marketing Management and Advertising from HEC Business School (University of Montréal, QC), and a Diploma in Interactive Media (Producer) from the Institut National de l'Image et du Son (INIS, Montréal QC).

Based in Vancouver, Miller brings more than 20 years of sales, marketing, product management and management consulting experience in the areas of national and international e-commerce, satellite communication technology, internet, and software industries to Wavefront. Prior to Wavefront, he was a founding executive and VP Sales and Marketing for NewspaperDirect, Inc., a global distribution and licensing network for digital newspaper print-on-demand services and wireless applications, where he exceeded sales targets, while developing the brand, corporate identity and PR strategy to drive publisher and industry awareness and push international sales. Richard holds an MBA from the Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario, London ON) and a BA Commerce (University of Alberta, Edmonton AB).

Korrelation Communications Names Senior Consultant

Daliah Hijazi has been appointed Senior Consultant at PR firm Korrelation Communications.

 “Daliah joined Korrelation Communications in 2010 and steadily progressed through the company ranks having served most recently as Consultant,” said Pamela Singh, president of Korrelation Communications. “Her unique ability to facilitate the communications process while managing efficient client and employee workflow has resulted in enhanced client, employee and partner relationships. She will be responsible for managing client relations, employee relations, as well as play a lead role in all new business development.

Toronto-based Korrelation Communications was recently named the public relations agency of record by Louianna Inc., makers of products such as Louianna Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Organic Balsamic Vinegar.

Hijazi a post-graduate certificate in Corporate Communications and Public Relations from Centennial College and an Honours Bachelor Degree in English and Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University. She previously worked as an Account Coordinator at The Siren Group, leading many successful PR initiatives.

V-P Strategy Joins Blast Radius

Blast Radius has brought David Jones on board as vice-president, strategy, Toronto effective immediately.

In his new role, he will focus on a holistic approach to communications viewed through the lens of human interaction and conversation, the company describes.

Jones comes from Proximity, Toronto, where he was vice-president leading the social strategy practice in the development and execution of social media initiatives across the agency’s client portfolio. He brings more than twenty years experience in the public relations field, developing campaigns through publicity and special events, to corporate communications and issues management. His broad experience in the sports, financial, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, packaged goods, corporate and events sectors has led him to successfully produce award-winning, online communication strategies for clients. He has held senior positions at Edelman, Fleishman-Hillard, Thornley Fallis, Molson, The Royal Canadian Golf Association, and Hill and Knowlton.

Newad Makes Appointments in Vancouver

Mark Russell and Adrienne Brault have been appointed to the positions of Senior Account Executive and Account Executive, respectively, at the digital agency Newad.

“These two appointments strengthen Newad’s leadership in Vancouver, a market that is experiencing constant growth. Mark and Adrienne will be important players in further developing relationships with our advertising partners, to whom we’re constantly proving our ability to activate creative and effective campaigns and promotions,” said Jerrid Grimm, Newad’s Vice President and Regional General Manager – Western Canada, in making the announcement.

Before doing her masters she worked on the agency side at Vizeum in Vancouver and Media Experts in Montreal. Adrienne also has an academic background in communications having graduated from Carleton University with a BA Honours in Mass Communications and completed a number of Public Relations Management courses from McGill University.
