Not surprising in a multi-cultural and multilingual city like Toronto, there's a company that's positioned to take advantage of all those conversations.
RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works - such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, video and other digital media - in a standardized format.
YYZ Translations says it is in a good position to help RSS feed publishers reach a wider international audience with the launch of a new Internet-based translation service.
It's a combination of automated systems and manual quality maintenance, designed to ensure the blog entries to be as powerful and accurate as the source message. The translation of feeds can be performed in one or more languages simultaneously, YYZ describes, and the translated feed is returned within minutes of receipt.
YYZ is aiming for translations it says will be more accurate, culturally correct and contextually to the point that those executed by automated machine translation systems like Google Translate.
The feeds generated by blogs will be received by the translation management system (TMS) deployed at Toronto-based YYZ Translations, which will submit the blog entries for translation.
Using digital technology and human translators, the company reports that blog entries will first undergo translation, editing and review, and will only be published upon approval to a blog site.
YYZ uses a network of translators based internationally, employed by YYZ and working in combination with its technology platform. The company currently has openings in many translation roles across multiple languages.
An RSS document (called a "feed," "Web feed," or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship.
Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favourite websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader," or "aggregator," which can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based.
A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering into the reader the feed's URI or by clicking on an RSS icon in a web browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.
While it will be available for translating feeds into 80 languages, the company says it anticipates that Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish will be the dominant languages for this service.
