Shaw Communications has unveiled development plans for its new corporate headquarters in downtown Calgary, along with plans to move its local TV station and related media production facilities.
Shaw plans a complete renovation and restoration of the Shaw Court building, as well as naming rights and office space within the new 3 Eau Claire building.
"The development supports the urbanization of downtown Calgary and reflects Shaw's position as a corporate and community leader," said Brad Shaw, CEO, Shaw Communications Inc. "With up to 2,000 employees, Shaw's corporate headquarters will form a new anchor of development in Calgary's downtown, while setting a new benchmark for innovation in workplace and office design."
"Shaw's commitment to rebuilding and expanding its corporate headquarters downtown will be a lasting contribution to a vibrant city centre," said Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary. "This project will be an important part of the downtown core and Calgary's economy."
Expected to reopen in spring 2014 - the redesigned Shaw Court building on 3 Avenue SW will feature collaborative workspaces, rooftop terraces with green space, enhanced digital infrastructure and will use sustainable building concepts to reduce Shaw's overall environmental footprint. Facilities enhancements, such as a wellness centre and a fitness centre, will help continue to promote employee wellness.
Additionally, Global Calgary will be moving its operations downtown - integrating a state-of-the-art TV studio into the ground floor of the redesigned Shaw Court building.
Shaw is also expanding its presence downtown to include 12 floors in 3 Eau Claire, the new 48-storey and 42-storey office and residential towers across the street from Shaw Court. Shaw has secured naming rights for the new building, which is expected to begin construction by summer 2013 and be completed by 2016.
In total, Shaw's corporate headquarters will occupy approximately 540,000 square feet (50,000 square metres) of office space in downtown Calgary.
