Representing a balanced mix of digital media and information and communication technology (ICT) companies, this year's Top 20 list of Canada's most innovative Canadian technology companies has been announced by the Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) has announced.
The 2011 list features 10 companies from the Toronto region, four from Montreal, two from Vancouver, and one each from Calgary, Ottawa, Waterloo and St. John's.
The companies will be invited to present at an industry event on Dec. 1, at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto. The Canadian Innovation Exchange will also host meetings between innovation leaders, plus a full day of informative panels, sessions and keynote presentations.
Hundreds of applications were received from across the country, and the entrants were evaluated based on a variety of factors, including the product or service offered, the depth of management, market opportunity and business model.
The selection committee was made up of experts from corporations, as well as entrepreneurs and investors.
The Dec. 1 event gives each business the opportunity to showcase their innovative concepts to a CIX audience of Canadian and international venture capital firms and corporate investors.
A winner from each of the two categories will be chosen on a 'virtual stock exchange,' where attendees at the event can buy, sell and trade virtual shares.
